10am SundayWorship Experience: "The Representation of the Wounded"
I offer three biblical representations of the wounded for our reflection today. First, the wounded appear in the form of a caregiver. A desperate mother comes to Jesus, crying out,
“Lord, help me,” because her daughter is tormented by unclean spirits. Her cry is the voice of countless caregivers burdened by the pain of their loved ones.
Second, we see the wounded represented by enduring hope. A woman who had suffered from illness for twelve long years reaches out in faith, saying, “If I can just touch the hem of His garment.” Her act shows the resilience of those who continue to believe despite years of pain.
Finally, as our sermon’s Scripture reminds us, we are all the wounded—represented ultimately by Jesus Christ. On the cross, Jesus bore our pain and carried our afflictions, just as the prophet Isaiah foretold: “By His wounds, we are healed.”
