Engage Thursday Bible Study – February 5, 2026 | The Bible, Its Blackness, & Me – Week 1
Title: The Bible, Its Blackness, & Me - Week 1
Scripture: Genesis 10:1-32
Summary: In this Engage Thursday Bible Study, we explored Genesis 10, often called The Table of Nations. While the chapter may seem like a long list of unfamiliar names, it reveals something deeply powerful: God intentionally recorded lineage, nations, and people to show that humanity belongs to something bigger than itself.
Pastor Paul reminded us that every part of Scripture is purposeful. Genesis 10 traces the descendants of Noah’s sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and shows how God fulfilled His covenant to repopulate the earth after the flood. Within this genealogy, we see clear connections to African regions and peoples, particularly through the lineage of Ham and Cush, pointing to Nubian and Ethiopian origins.
The lesson reframed history through a biblical lens, affirming that Black and Brown people are not an afterthought in Scripture, but part of God’s original design and ongoing covenant. Even in the face of oppression, erasure, and misuse of Scripture, God’s Word still speaks dignity, purpose, and calling over His people.
Ultimately, this study encouraged us to stop looking to the world for validation and instead find our identity, worth, and calling in God’s promises—promises that were spoken long before we were born.
