Advent season begins December 1
What is Advent?
What is Advent?
Advent is a season of waiting & watching for the coming of Jesus Christ.
One of the ways we reflect on Advent in communal worship is by utilizing an Advent wreath--a simple wreath surrounding four exterior candles and one central candle.

Advent Week 1
HOPE
The first candle, which is purple, symbolizes hope. It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming of Jesus Christ.
It is sometimes called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, who foretold the birth of Christ.

Advent Week 2
PEACE
The second candle, also purple, represents peace. Many scriptures, like Phillippians 4:7, remind us of the total peace we experience with Jesus.
Sometimes called the "Bethlehem Candle," we reflect on the journey Joseph & Mary took from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

Advent Week 3
JOY
The third candle, sometimes called the "Shepherd's Candle," is pink, the liturgical color for joy. We take this time to celebrate like the shepherds and 3 wise men did at the news of Jesus' coming.
Advent Week 4 LOVE
The fourth candle, also purple, represents love. We light this on the last Sunday in Advent to commemorate the great act of love God showed when He gave His only son.
Christmas Eve
CHRIST
The final candle is called the Christ Candle and represents the life of Jesus Christ.
