Title: Jehovah Jireh My Provider – Week 4

Scripture:

Exodus 16

Key Verse:

Exodus 16:35

“The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan.”

Summary:

Continuing Jehovah Jireh: My Provider, Pastor Paul returned to Exodus 16 to show us that God’s provision was not just about meeting one immediate need. God gave the Israelites quail and manna, but He also gave them instructions that required them to depend on Him every day. Everyone received what they needed, and God continued sustaining them throughout their journey. The question for Israel, and for us, is whether we will trust God to provide or continue looking to ourselves, people, or other things to provide what only God can.

The manna also points us beyond Israel’s wilderness experience to Jesus, the Bread of Life. The same God who provided bread from heaven for Israel ultimately gave us Jesus, who provides life that lasts beyond our temporary circumstances. We are challenged to remember our spiritual markers, the tangible places and moments where we have already seen God at work, so that when fear, doubt, timing, circumstances, or the unknown challenge our faith, we can remember: God provided before, God is providing now, and God will continue to provide.

Key Takeaways:

1. God’s provision teaches us daily dependence. We are called to trust Him for what we need one day at a time.

2. God can provide in unexpected ways and with more than we imagined, but we must recognize Him as the source.

3. God desires provision for everyone. Israel gathered different amounts, but everyone received what they needed.

4. God’s provision is not only about meeting a need. He is also working to change our hearts and teach us to trust Him.

5. Jesus is the Bread of Life. The God who provided manna from heaven for Israel ultimately gave us Jesus, our everlasting source of life.

6. Remember your spiritual markers. When fear, doubt, circumstances, timing, or the unknown make it difficult to trust God, remember the places where He has already shown Himself faithful.
