Title: Jehovah Jireh My Provider – Week 6

Scripture:

1 Kings 17:1–24 NIV

Key Verse:

1 Kings 17:16 NIV

“For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah.”

Summary:

Continuing Jehovah Jireh: My Provider, Pastor Michael explored 1 Kings 17 and the unexpected ways God provided for Elijah and the widow of Zarephath. When Elijah's life was in danger, God directed him to a brook where ravens brought him food. But when the brook dried up, God directed him somewhere new. Through this experience, we are reminded that God determines when, where, and how provision comes. Sometimes God uses unexpected people, unusual circumstances, and unfamiliar places to meet our needs. Even when a source we've depended on is no longer available, God remains our Provider.

Pastor Michael also challenged us to trust God with what may seem like just enough. The widow had only a handful of flour and a little oil, yet God sustained her family and Elijah day after day. When her son later died, Elijah turned to God in prayer, and God restored the child's life. Through these experiences, we see that God's provision extends beyond material needs and that prayer, obedience, and faith remain important even in seasons of grief and uncertainty. Our confidence must never rest in the brook, the ravens, the widow, the flour, or the oil. These are instruments God uses, but God is the source of our provision.

Key Takeaways:

1. God is the source, even when people are the instrument. Our confidence should rest in God rather than the people or resources God uses to help us.

2. God's provision can come through unexpected channels. God can use unlikely people, unusual circumstances, and unfamiliar opportunities to accomplish God's purpose.

3. A dried-up source does not mean a dried-up God. When something we've depended on is no longer available, God remains faithful and can direct us toward something new.

4. Faith often requires obedience before we see the provision. Elijah followed God's direction, and the widow responded in faith even when neither could see the full outcome.

5. God provides for God's purpose, not merely our comfort. Sometimes God leads us through unfamiliar or uncomfortable circumstances to teach us dependence and trust.

6. God remains our Provider even when circumstances change. Whether we're facing limited resources, uncertainty, or grief, we can continue seeking God's direction and trusting God one day at a time.
